The listing, Old 5c Columbus US Stamp from 1893 has ended.
Up for grabs is a VERY old US stamp-- it's a 5c brown issued for the Columbian Exposition in 1893, Scott number 234. It is in used condition-- not perfect, but certainly passable for a paper item so old. This is a fairly valuable stamp-- it has a catalogue value of $9.50, according to Scott's.
Here's the bigger scoop: My mom and stepdad both passed away over the past couple of years, and I've been going through some of their old stuff-- they were both dedicated "savers" of everything. In some ways, I guess they were borderline "hoarders." My stepdad collected stamps, and this is from his collection-- although it's more like a giant pile of messy album pages and envelopes.
I think people should have fun bidding on stuff-- that's what auctions are all about! So the starting bids for my stuff will always be is FIVE credits, and we go from there, no matter HOW valuable something might be.
