Description

The listing, Original Signed Wallace Nutting Print has ended.

This is a signed original Wallace Nutting print. Nutting was born in 1861 in Rockbottom ,Mass, He began photographing the countryside while riding his bike in 1899. He died in Framingham ,Mass in 1941. He was also known for his reproduction furniture, that often passed for originals, they were so good! He claims to have sold 1 million photographs in his lifetime!! I'm afraid I do not know the title of this photo ,though it is clearly a view of a river, in soft colors, and signed at the bottom. It has one small dent a bit more than one fourth of an inch. And some normal wear for a print this age.It is stamp dated on the back 0ct 8(?)1923 then in pencill 8862 over 4 and a squiqqle could be an s or 5 maybe. The print itself is mounted on the Ivory colored board he used and signed below the print(it can be lifted gently to see the stamp and writing, This print was likely made in his Framingham ,Mass studio, where he lived and worked until his death in 1941. He was without a doubt one of America's most prolific and talented photographers! He also authored books and did a number of other things in his lifetime. The print itself is 5 3/4" by 3 and 3/4" wide. Mounted on the board is about 8" (w)x10"(h). Thanks for looking and check out all of my auctions, too!

Ty , I got my first Nutting , up in VT , about 1975!! And I had no idea he had lived in Mass.!! I used to shop in the mall in Framingham where he died! (He died in 1941 , and I don't think the mall was built until the 1960's . There is a "Nutting Library " online, but I couldn't figure out how to use it. I wanted to see if the # on the back corresponded to a title. Some were titled
Springtime" ,or things like that, this has no title written on it.

I rotate my art, that is I have designated storage areas, with dividers, for small stuff I put cardboard between them on an old dresser, set into boxes, or on storage shelves(i haven't used the attic because the ladder broke! Lol!!And our basement is a bit damp, so things are in a kind of back closet , area.

Stephen the thing is to determine , which stuff to keep !! This print has, and will go up!! Everyday there are less and less of these! And really it's not big.( Framed will be about the same size as a book (thin book! Lol) . How often can you get an original signed print for free?? The only reason I'm giving it away myself , is because I am an artist, myself , I love collecting things like this and I always have!! But , this is a photographic image (handtinted) and I 'm focusing on paintings (not so much prints or photography.). For someone interested in photography this would be a wonderful gift!! And early photography is super hot right now!! As time goes on it will continue to appreciate!! (Think how much American folk art has skyrocketed!! When I was in college weather vanes(old ones) were a dime a dozen!! In Vt they were melting them down for the copper!! Haha!!!
