I found this unique beauty at an Estate Sale, and no one knows what it is! :)) It's a gorgeous multi colored bottle with a hole in the bottom, footed, and a wire handle. Please see all pictures for detail and measurements.
Please, if you know what this is, tell me! :) There are no chips or cracks that I can see. No stamps or markings. I have no idea or it's age or origin.

This is a newer fly catcher . Not very expensive . I am a antique collector and have quite a few of them. The real old ones are hand blown not pressed glass . They normally are clear, light blue , or the highly collectable purple ones . These were placed on the Victorians dining room tables in the south a lot because they always had their windows open because of the heat . They were covered with a cloth so the guests didn't have to stare at the dead ones floating in the water . Just thought I would share this with you .

Well, see, now I would have used it like a hurricane lantern, but for a candle. Put a candle on a small saucer, light it, then lower this item over the candle...can't be blown out and looks nice! I guess the use is in the eyey of the beholder, lol!

JLR717 is correct. It is for bees, yellow jackets & wasps. The wire is to hang it up away from the table to attract them. They supposedly get stuck inside. I bought one & hung it on our porch but someone broke it before I ever got to put anything in it. Probably not very old.

Thank you! I guess it probably isn't very old, but I did pick it up at an estate sale, where I purchased many antiques. That's why I thought it may be old. It is so pretty just to catch bees and wasps! :)

We can put it with my Camel Saddle, they sell for $75 to $850!! Lol!! Mine saddle isn't quite as useful unless you want it for a footstool, or have a camel Hahaha!! Maybe I should get this to hang off the camel saddle to keep the flies off the Camel I don't have(I feel like Gertrude Stein , talking like this!! Lol!!) A Fly trap is a Fly trap is a Fly Trap, is a Fire Extinguisher!! (Gertrude sorry if I'm insulting you wherever you are!!).

Thank you, but I don't advertise my auctions on fellow Listian's pages, nor do I allow it on mine. It's just a matter of respect, in my opinion :)

I asked my aunt about where she got hers and she said that it was from an old warehouse she worked in. They had wax corks in them and when there was a fire the fire would heat the wax letting the water out and then people would take them down and repurpose them as fly and wasp traps.. so it is TWO things first life it was a fire extinguisher and second life a fly trap and now in this lifetime just a pretty piece of colored glass with history :)

I believe it is a fly, wasp, bee, etc. trap. My grandmother actually had one. It looks newer, OR maybe just well taken care of. I know if it is antique it could bring a good $ 800. or for a serious collector even more. Good luck Its beautiful. Never seen a multi colored only clear or red.

It is indeed, a fly/wasp catcher. I "Binged" it and many pictures came up of ones very similar to this!
Thank you :)

Oh - BTW - DO NOT put it in the dishwasher. Some of the antique ones are painted and if you run it through the dishwasher, it will wash the color off!

Yes - it is a wasp/bee trap. We have several around our house in different colored glass. They are beautiful as well as useful when you're trying to work or eat outside. We just hose ours out when they get unsightly from all the wasps trapped in it, and refill with sugar water.

My folks have one and it's a bee trap BUT what looks cool is if you get one of those lights that have a clip (like the one's that go in the Christmas village houses) put it in the bottom and now you can really enjoy the beautiful colored glass ! How fun and I think you should win a special badge (maybe they have one?) for the most comments !!! LOL ~ Jaime

Yes it is a fly and bee trap. If the wire isgalvanized then it could be per 1970's if the wire is copper or coated Steel then it's newer. They're still in production today so they must work. Hope that helps.

some one knows the value of this honey jug because they bid. these if they are from 1881 are worth 1,000 and if they are from 2013 they are worth 9.99-45.99
I just saw one on ebay that looks like this going for 75.00 they are fly catchers, it should be date stamped on the bottom or a maker stamp in the glass itself

Hello! It is a vintage, possibly antique fly/bee trap/catcher, you put out in the yard or at a park where you want to have a picinic!

That's a real good stump-er. I tried searching it , and didn't find anything. Maybe a wind whistler, hang it outside and wind blows through the bottom or top and makes a noise. Its pretty what ever it is.
