what this will do it say your new tv has an HDMI input, but your computer is older or just does not have HDMI but had DVI..... it allows the conversion on the output for video ONLY. its a solution if you dont wanna have to upgrade the graphics card to save some money. you can always run a audio jack to add sound if needed
just to be helpful this is not a VGA to HDMI adapter it is a DVI to HDMI adapter which does basically the same thing as a vga adapter however DVI is not as common on laptops but is very common on desktops (computer towers) on easy way to tell the difference between the two is simple vga has 3 rows of 5 pins the 2nd row is offset one pin from the first and the last row is inline with the first where as DVI has far more pins i hope i help clear up things i would buy this but i wish there was gin any way good luck with your auction :)
