Questions & Comments
In Song and slang this is commonly referred to as a Ha'penny. Christmas is coming the Goose is getting Fat Please putta penny in the Old man's hat If you hav'n't gotta Penny, a Ha'Penny will do If you hav'n't gotta Ha'Penny God Bless you.
Originally from England this Half Penny was part of the english system that included a farthing that is half a half Penny and even a quarter Farthing. Which was 1/4 a farthing and 1/16th a penny. It took 12 Pennies to equal a Shillling and 5 Shillings equal a Crown. Two pennies were a tupence and they had three and 6 pence coins. There was also a Florin that was equal to two shillings. This all went away in the 1970s when the English went to decimal Coins
One last note this country is also where the 6 pence from for the saying Something old, Something new, Something borrowed, something Blue and a lucky Six Pence in her shoe.
