Common Mullein, Verbascum thapsus is a biennial-so it lives for 2 years. The first year, it does a rosette which survives thru winter-but no flower stalk. The second year, the flower stalk grows and blooms a few at a time from June to September. When its finished blooming, the plant dies. The flower stalk can be as big as 10 feet tall. The leaves are fuzzy. This is a pioneer plant-its the first plant to grow where an area had been burned or disturbed.
