The listing, Nice 1901 Brazil 200 Reis coin, only year this coin was minted, collector piece. has ended.
Nice example of the 1901 Brazil 200 Reis coin. Please look at the pictures for grading. This is the only year this particular coin was minted. The copper/nickel Reis was introduced in 1870. The first official currency of Brazil was the real (pronounced réis). Its sign was Rs$. It was adopted as the official currency of Brazil in 1790, and remained in use until 1942, when it was replaced by the cruzeiro. The name real was resurrected in 1994 for a new currency unit, which is still in use. One modern real is equivalent to 2.75 × 1018 (2.75 quintillion) of the old réis. The name comes from the Portuguese word real (in the sense of "royal") and was borrowed from a Portuguese currency previously used in Brazil. Great collectable, gift or investment!
