The listing, James Bond style subminiature spy Camera circa 1960's has ended.
This auction is for a Minolta 16 (II) 16mm subminiature camera. These are sometimes called "spy cameras" because it's the sort of thing you might have seen in a James Bond movie. The camera is about three inches long when closed. When slid open the camera is just over four inches long. The film is advanced by sliding the camera open, which then exposes the shutter release button. Take your picture, slide closed, and then slide open and repeat as needed.
Despite its small size and the nature of its design being something of a novelty this thing actually has a few features worth noting here. First of all the 16 II expands the exposure capabilities of the original 16 model. The shutter has 6 settings: 500, 250, 125, 60, 30 and Bulb. There are also 6 aperture settings: 16, 11, 8, 5.6, 4, and 2.8. The range of control over the exposure makes this a fairly versatile camera. There is also a terminal for connecting a flash unit and optional available accessories are many, including slip on filters and even a addon tri-pod/flash mount. a filter and the tripod/flashmount adaptor are included. Because of the features that were added to the design of the first version and taken away in subsequent revised and simplified versions, this seems to be the desirable version of the Minolta 16 series.
This camera is in excellent shape, there are a few scuffs and minor scratches on the outer covering. The camera slides open and closed smoothly, the shutter button and exposure control dials all move smoothly too. Please take a look at the photos and feel free to ask any questions you might have. I will be glad to respond promptly. These were made in 1960's Japan so you know it was put together very well and will likely last a long time.
