The listing, Catalpa Tree seeds, 20qty has ended.
The Catalpa tree is a wonderful tree! My absolute favorite. It has large, heart shaped leaves and the most beautiful flowers in late spring--they look like orchids and smell awesome! In the fall you will see long, string-bean shaped seed pods on the tree when picked young are edible and were a staple food of the Delaware native Americans--Cool huh? It is the string bean seed pods which gave them their second name, the string bean tree. It grows rather tall so you better have the room for it, about 45-60 feet tall with a 40 foot wide canopy for lots of shade. It can grow spindly if you don't prune it early--my deer did this for me and I'm grateful because now they are wide and full, but you can do that yourself or leave them to grow as they will. Either way they are great fast growing trees. Hardy in USDA zones 4-8, like full sun but will take part shade. Like rich loam, well-draining soil but seem to do quite well in my heavy clay, wet stuff.
