Description

The listing, Brass & Cloissonne Door Pull/Wall Decoration has ended.

I'm not absolutely certain that I have named this item correctly. It is beautiful cloissomme work. Colors are vivid appearing to be all within their brass dams Very clean. As to the purpose of this piece, we discussed possibilities: a door pull (small door); a cabinet pull; a wall decoration. The elevation of the screw holes in the back I think make its function that of a cabinet door pull of some variety. It seems to clearly be French in design and cloissonné finish. Whatever it was used for and what it will be used for with its new owner!

Essentially, yes. Brass base, flat copper wire soldered to base in a design, then your color material is carefully poured/put in to the copper wire .channel. It produces beautiful colors and results.Jim

Since the raised areas on the back are threaded then you are probably on the right track for door pull. My guess it was on a door or drawer pull in a church and there
are more of the beauties somewhere! Love it!

OOOopps, should have been in the ad. Forgive me. Measurements: 4 1/4" long X 2 3/8" across X 3/8" deep. The reason that I think the holes in the raised part are for screws is simple, they re threaded. Now I'm no spacecraft engineer, but I think the threads means they were meant for screws. If you have another idea as to what they are, let me know. While measuring the piece I found 2 numerals stamped into the back at the intersection of the horizontal and vertical bars, either 89 if you look at the cross with the short vertical to the top or the other way around, they read 68. Any clue as to what they might represent?

Very nice. What are the measurements? Are you sure those are screw holes on the back? Could it be legs and the cross is a trivet?
