The listing, 1965 Topps #479 KEN "Hawk" HARRELSON (KC Athletics) HIGH # - Voice of the White Sox has ended.
1965 Topps high number cards (#371-598) were printed at considerably lower amounts than the lower numbered cards and are considered harder to find and more valuable than their low number counterparts.
A player with power to spare, Harrelson finished 3rd in the MVP vote in 1968 with 35 home runs and 109 RBI for Boston. He retired in 1971 at age 30 after a broken leg paved the way for Chris Chambliss to replace him in Cleveland.
But, let's be honest, Harrelson is best remembered for his time in broadcast. "The Hawk" has been broadcasting since the 1982 season, and has held down the Chicago White Sox broadcast job steadily since 1990; he's well-enough known that he'll get some consideration for induction into the Hall of Fame as a broadcaster when he decides to retire.
