Ashwaganda is an important herb used in Ayurvedic medicine for it's anti tumor and anxiolytic effects and is currently an active ingredient in commercial supplements such as "stresstabs". Both varieties are tender perennials, however in most regions they are grown as annuals. This African strain is a quicker growing and a more drought resistant strain providing more fully developed roots in one season. In addition to its ayurvedic value, the berries of the plant can be used as a substitute for rennet to make cheese.
