The listing, Large Birdhouse/Kettle Gourd Seeds has ended.
Grow large craft gourds! These things are super easy to grow, and it always amazes me to watch the gourds form. They vine and travel, so only plant them where you want them or train them to a trellis.
When i grew these last, I planted the seeds in an old tire in my backyard, nearly all of them germinated, and they grew a ton each day. I tied branches together with wire and built a makeshift trellis and tied support branches between the trellis and a fence. This gave plenty of room to entwine MANY plants upon each other. Every day or so, i wrapped the new growth back onto the trellis. By fall, I had SEVERAL large gourds. I wait for the vine to die back (these are annuals) then dry the gourds overwinter in a warm dry place. The skin rots, but that doesn't matter. The gourd on the inside cures and most of mine were ready by late spring. Expect 30% of your gourds not to dry correctly overwinter, but a good 70% are perfect! I make musical instruments from these gourds, but most people make birdhouses. I have plenty of gourd seeds from my crafts I couldn't possible grow them all!
