1926 Buffalo Nickel
The winner of this listing will receive the beautiful 1926 Buffalo Nickel shown in the attached photos. Buffalo Nickels were minted 1913 to 1938; made from Copper-Nickel. The engraver, James Earle Fraser said the buffalo on this coin was "Black Diamond" (1893-1915), a famous buffalo at the Central Park zoo in New York City. The Native American depiction on the obverse was based on three different American Indians. One was Chief Iron Tail of the Lakota Sioux, the second was Chief Two Moons of the Cheyenne; the third is unknown although several had claimed to have had a sitting with Fraser. So there you have it, an interesting piece of American history and far more beautiful than the crap the mint gives us today.
