Description

The listing, Organic ✽ JOE PYE WEED ✽ 15 Seeds ✽ Butterfly Magnet has ended.

These are seeds from my best butterfly magnet yet, Joe Pye Weed. This is a stately perennial, averaging 4' to 7' in height. They start sprouting from the ground slowly in late spring, but achieve full size quickly. Every butterfly that passes through my garden cannot resist the soft rose/lavender panicles of flowers on this butterfly magnet. It is not unusual to see five different breeds at one time happily sipping nectar. It grows in a variety of soils in full sun to part shade. When they decide to seed themselves, you will learn their desired spot in the garden bed. They can handle high winds, salty air, and are good for hillside soil erosion. They are reliable bloomers and reproduce slowly, giving you years of enjoyment. They are very hardy and very little care is needed. They are water worshipers, though, and I gage the needs of my garden bed according to this plant. I do not water them as much as they would like, but have never managed to kill one! I believe the "strong shall survive" in my garden. You will appreciate my motto!

Name: Eupatorium fistulosum

Zone: 3-9

Exposure: full to part sun

This Auction: You will be receiving 15 seeds from my garden. They will be sent First Class mail. I've never tried these in pots, as they come up fine in the garden. I recommend fall planting, shallow in the soil. Be sure to tag the area so you know what is coming up in spring.

Is this plant edible? If so what does it taste like?

I never tried to eat this or make tea from it. There are contrary opinions on that. It is supposed to be good for you in small amounts, could cause liver problems with regular use. I just grow this as a backdrop for other plants, and for all the butterflies.
