Jewelry, as it is received from the manufacturer, should be assumed to be non-sterile. The jewelry provided is NEW, BUT NEEDS TO BE STERILIZED!

The piercer should wear new, disposable gloves throughout the procedure, which are not provided with the kit!

Also, I never recommend doing it yourself as it is always best to go to professional piercer.

The piercing needles are new individually factory wrapped and sterile. All of the needles are Professional surgical grade piercing needles for body piercing, laser sharpened and individually packaged and 2 inches(48mm) long that comes sterilized (using E.O. gas -- the best sterilization process available today for piercing needles).
