The listing, 1962 Topps #101 CARROLL HARDY (Red Sox) great story, read! has ended.
This is a 1962 #101 CARROLL HARDY baseball card. Carroll was an outfielder with the Boston Red Sox.Drafted to play in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers in the 3rd round of the 1955 draft, CARROLL HARDY chose baseball instead, and holds a very unique place in history:
He was the ONLY man ever to pinch hit for Ted Williams.
He was also the ONLY man ever to pinch hit for Carl Yastrzemski.
As a Cleveland Indian, he also got the call to pinch hit for Roger Maris.
After 8 seasons in MLB, Hardy retired and went back to football, as a personnel director for the Denver Broncos, where he built the Orange Crush Defense which led the Broncos to their first Super Bowl appearance in 1977.
Card is in very good condition, especially for a 1962 which is a condition sensitive set. No creases, corners are soft but very intact, minimal surface wear.
