Description

The listing, 3 90% old Barber Dimes 19th Century 1897 1898 1899 has ended.

Up for auction: 3 19th Century Barber Dimes, years 1897, 1898, and 1899, all in Good condition according to Red Book criteria.

Picture 1 shows the obverse side of the lot.

Pictures 2 and 3 show the obverse and reverse side of the 1897, which grades G, but has scratching and staining on both sides. LIBERTY is missing, but all other lettering and the date are strong. There is a very minor rim ding at 6:30 on the obverse, and a couple of small rim dings between 2:00 and 3:00 on the reverse, but overall the rims on the coin are very good.

Pictures 4 and 5 show the obverse and reverse of the 1898. There is a some scratching on both sides of the coin, and the rims merge into the lettering on the obverse, but the rims are 95% intact on the reverse. LIBERTY is missing, but the lettering is readable and the date are strong which gives this coin a good grade. The reverse on this dime is the best of the three.

Pictures 6 & 7 show the obverse and reverse of the 1899. Again, there is no LIBERTY so the coin grades as good. The date and all lettering are very strong. The coin has some staining on the obverse and either some toning (OK) or some stain (not so OK) on the reverse. I tend to think the coin is stained and has been exposed to something that has caused a degree of corrosion and pitting. The rims on the coin are about 85% intact, although the rims on the obverse between 1:00 and 4:00 may have some pitting instead of just being stained.

All Listia rules are in effect. No international shipping. Shipping domestically only upon receiving a verified address. Shipping will include tracking and the three dimes will be in 2x2s with mylar protection.

I have to say thank you - for not doing GIN on your listings all the time. By allowing the bid to run, buyers get the time to view. So many people work different schedules so allowing the time to run on an item is appreciated more than you know!!

Patricia, I don't like GINs too much. I can see it if I have a single coin that someone wants quickly and we negotiate a GIN. But I have no idea what to ask for GINs, and I do prefer to let the Listia free market operate. So, thank you for pointing out another reason not to do GINs, because so many people ask me about doing them all the time, even after the bidding has begun, and GIN is no longer even possible.

I have run a few GINs, but on most of my auctions, especially multi-coin lots, I prefer to let the free market of Listians to have the opportunity to bid, while setting the starting bid at 0. I am planning to run some more GINs, but one problem I have is not really knowing what to set a GIN at. But thank you for your comment!
