Description
The listing, 1943 S Jefferson Silver Nickel. has ended.
San Francisco Mint.
During World War II, silver was substituted for nickel in 5-cent coins because the metal nickel had important applications for weapons.
Jefferson silver war nickels are rare and collectable because they are 35% silver, being the only US nickels that contain any silver! They are distinctive too for the large mint mark above Monticello's dome on the reverse, in this case "S" for San Francisco.
The coin you see is the one you'll get. It has unusual circular scratches on the front. I don't know what might have caused them, but they seem to arc about the coin's center.
