This is a 1919 Canadian Large Cent....The large cents were introduced in 1858 and originally issued to bring order to the Canadian monetary system. Large cents were abolished in 1920 in favor of the smaller cents. The most important aspect about this is that Canada stopped ALL minting of the penny. The last Canadian one cent coins were minted in February 2013. The Canadian government states the penny ( one cent coin) is now permanently obsolete in Canada and a rush to horde pennies has already began. We don't collect international coins and hopefully won't regret letting this one go here on Listia. This is a beautiful coin and while circulated, it still has great detail.
