The listing, LOOK! DUZ-ALL Flight Wrench & Blood Brothers Machine Company Allegan Michigan Universal Joint / Logo has ended.
For auction: TWO UNUSUAL COLLECTIBLES. See for yourself!
Pic 1 shows both collectibles: On the left, the DUZ-ALL Flight Wrench (more info below), with a Blood Brothers Machine Company of Allegan, Michigan universal joint or logo of some type (also more info below).
Pics 2 and 3 show the front of the DUZ-ALL Flight Wrench & the back portion of the wrench w/the Patent Pending info. The wrench is about 2" high and 3" across. This wrench obviously precedes the same one eventually used by North American Aviation (NAA) because of the bolt in the front of this one which is lacking in the latter ANA version. This also has no NAA stamp on the back like those you may see if you use Google.
This type of flight wrench is apparently for a type of fastener called a Dzus, pronounced Zeus or zoos. Apparently it is quick-opening & can be used for quick action & the removal of fuel caps. One poster on a blog about these stated "You will find Dzus fasteners on the front cowling inspection panel of almost any older light piston aircraft. If you ever dipsticked it, you Dzused it."
Pics 4 and 5 show the Blood Brothers Machine Company of Allegan, Michigan universal joint (or logo?) from front and back. Googling it yielded the following information:
Blood Brothers Machine Company was a universal joint manufacturing firm w/factories in Allegan and Kalamazoo, Michigan. In 1914, the Blood Brothers purchased the Allegan Mirror Company and ventured into the racing car industry with the production of the unique chain drive Cornelian driven by Louis Chevrolet in the 1915 Indy 500 race. Fewer than 100 of these vehicles were produced.
Thus, I am inclined to think this is a universal joint piece unless it is simply a logo. Regardless, it looks like it's 100 years old or so!
