The listing, 19 Assorted VINTAGE 1930s Fabric QUILT BLOCKS / SQUARES has ended.
Up for auction is a lot of quilt blocks / squares purchased at a local house sale.
There are 12 green and light pinwheels that are about 9½" square, and then there is a 13th one that has a spot. Most of the blocks are like the first one pictured, but there are a couple like the second and third blocks.
You will notice one of the green pinwheels (4th one pictured) is a "humility block". Back in the old days, quilters would put a deliberate error in their quilts - a block turned sideways, a different shade of red in one part, something skewed or "wrong". This, we are told, comes from the idea that since only God is perfect, making a perfect quilt is prideful".
There are four large pink and natural circular stars. Some have some of the natural at the very edges, but mostly they end with the second row of pink (as seen in the 7th scan). They measure about 16", and I think they are really nice!
There is only one blue and multi colored square (and it's not really square). 10" x 10½" .
The last one pictured is about 11" x 11".
Obviously, if you were going to use the green ones, you would have to square them off a bit, because some are machine sewn;some are hand sewn. They are not exactly the same, but very close. Would look great framed for a shop!
These were sold to me by a woman well into her 80s, and these had been her moms. Her mother quilted for people and would mount the different blocks on cardboard, take them around and people would choose the pattern they wanted.
The green pinwheels look like a quilt was started and then taken back apart. I believe most of the fabrics are from the 30s..
Camera is not working at this time, so I had to scan the blocks and they did not fit entirely on my scanner top -- cut off a bit at the sides. I hope you can get a good idea of what you are bidding on!
No storage or smoke odor in these blocks! I just love old quilt squares, and can't pass them up, but I don't work with vintage fabrics.
