I have an acid test kit and that's not how the test works. The item is rubbed onto a stone and a mark is left. There are different bottles of acid in the kit. If the acid eats the mark away it's not real gold, however if the mark stays it passed that test and you move up to the next bottle until you find one that it fails. The acid test will actually tell you what the purity of the gold it based on which acids dissolve the mark. And if my $15 kit from amazon can do that I'm sure a pawn shop's kit could. I'm not trying to be negative (and I don't intend to bid). I just think either the story sounds fishy or the pawn shop you went to has some serious employee training issues.

I took it to the pawn shop because Jeremy told me that he could do a acid test on it to see if it was real or not and that he could more than likely make out the markings on the ring. This is what was stated to me by him and the manager " It past the acid test meaning that the gold did NOT rub off, if we had to guess we would say that it is 14 kt gold." That is what was told to me..... I am NOT trying to scam anybody. That is why I have been HONEST and as it says at ALL lista rules apply DO NOT BID IF YOU DO NOT WANT THIS ITEM! No the diamonds weren't tested I really just wanted to know if the gold was real.... I have read and understand the lista rules. I don't mind the negative comments and I will leave them on here. In my opinion good luck to y'all! Thank You and Have A Blessed Day :)

Well it wouldn't be 24kt because pure gold is too soft to hold it's shape and hold stones in. Why did you take it to the pawn shop? Did they take it on pawn? Did they make you an offer for it? I've never heard of a pawn shop that didn't have a jeweler's loup. It all sounds a bit "off" to me. If you're not sure you should just call it costume jewelry to be on the safe side. Otherwise you are never going to see those credits. Good luck!

Your friend at the Pawn Shop should have been able to tell you for sure if it was gold or not. Also the diamonds. Makng the satements stating you are not sure, sounds like more likely they are not, or you would have just stated I got it tested and yes they are real. It is a little deceiving, by talking around it. Most of us work hard to get our credits, so we like to confirm what we are getting. Heads up. Since you are new, just for your information, a person can request their credits back if for whatever reason they are not happy with the transaction, it is up to the Listia Moderator to decide if they get them back or not. They have always been fair.Good Luck with your listing.

You too it to a pawn shop, but they didn't tell you if it was 10k or 14k and they didn't test the diamonds to see if they were real or not?

Hi, I share your pain in the picture taking department; I too tried in the dark, under my desk in the bathroom with no lights etc. and still couldn't get a good pick. For some reason the Cell Phones take better pics than our regular cameras. Good luck!

A friend of mine that works in a local pawn shop did the acid test and it passed. Most of the time when they test gold if it isn't real gold the color will rub off and it didn't do that. We can make out a 4 on the markings, but even with a magnifying glass you can't tell.
