Ixia, a member of the Iris family of flowers, is a deciduous perennial that grows in the winter and is dormant in the summer. There are about 50 species of Ixia, and numerous hybrids have been developed. Ixia blooms in late spring with charming, star-shaped flowers. Depending on the cultivar, the flowers can be pink, white, red, yellow or even turquoise-blue. Ixia can be grown outdoors in areas that have hot, dry summers, but they are more commonly grown in pots or hanging baskets

Questions & Comments

We are on the border between Zone 7 & 8; definitely hot summers. usually dry. Will these make it outside during out winters which can be ratheq cold?

Store ixias during the winter in a cool, dry location, if necessary. Ixias are hardy bulbs that can survive underground during most winters of they are mulched heavy to protect them. I plant mine in a hanging pot then when winter arrives I place them in my outbuilding. Thank you for asking the question and good luck if you decide to bid. :)
