"Walking Across Egypt" in a video rental place, considered this a must have! I will watch it over and over again. Delightful, funny, uplifting, challenging, and inspiring, it very sensitively portrays the struggles of an elderly widow woman who is being pressured by her daughter to give up her independent life and a young delinquent who has never known the discipline of someone who cared about him. Ellen Burstyn plays a superb role as the lonely widow who, at the beginning of the story, sees no purpose left for her existence beyond planning her own funeral and feeding stray dogs. In the process of befriending a young man at a juvenile detention facility she finds new meaning for her life. From very different backgrounds, the two needy leading characters come to understand, appreciate, and love each other.
