The listing, Silent Butler has ended.

This is an old Silent Butler. It was designed to use to empty ashtrays in. You can use it for that or a trinket container. The picture on the top is a colonial scene. It looks like someone painted this and added the picture like découpage. It measures about 8" across by 8" wide from front to end of handle. There are minor scratches on it. It's made out of metal and I can find no markings.

okay......I'm still not sure what this is. I love the look of it. can you explain more to me? like, what part do you empty the ashtray in? is it flat?

No, it's kind of like a metal dish with a lid. There is a lever on the top over the handle that you push down on with your thumb to open the lid.
