Great soup recipe, you'll make it again and again. This is a killer recipe and a family held secret, if my mother was still alive, she'd beat the crap out of me for sharing it. I suppose you could use tofu in place of the top round or other lean beef, but the loss of flavor of the beef cooked to perfection cannot be replaced. Anyhow, it's too good to be believed. I will tell you this much, it's a hell of a lot better than Bush's Baked Beans so the dog is still safe, but I'll have to deal with Mom's ghost because of this! I do have a couple of variations on this which will be included, but your best bet is to follow the basic recipe, any major deviation just takes away from the eating experience rather than adding to it. Trust me, those of us who have tried to improve it have only lessened the experience.
