This is a replica of an original hand-carved bust created by the RED-MILL MFG. Co. which is no longer in business as of 2001. After some more research, I have found that the molds have been sold to some company in China (figures) so you should know that if you do find any others of these, your chances of getting a lesser valued and cheaper made product is a chance you will take. I have owned this one for 15 to 20 years, so I know for a fact it is from the original company, but the bottom markings tell that they were made by RED MILL.
This bust is created by using a blend of crushed pecan shells and resin poured into a mold created from an original carving. All of the wood carving details and marks can be seen and the pecan shell mix creates a real-life wood appearance that looks as though it is made of solid pecan wood.
This bust is signed by the creator of the original carving, R. Wetherbee and dated 1986.
Knowing that this was created from a mold I am surprised to find so few others in my searches, but also knowing that the company is no longer in existence, that would make sense and therefore this item just that much more rare. This company did create all kinds of different figurines up until 2001, and it is their Duck Decoys that they are supposedly most known for. Many different figurines created by this company can be found by searching the web, but as I said, this one is nowhere near as abundant as their others.
The pictures do show the carving details, but it does need to be seen in person to really appreciate the finer details in the face and hands.
