Description

The listing, Salton IceBox has ended.

The finest commercial technology from 2000 for the networked home! (At least as far I know.)

This compact and well-built unit features a 9 inch crisp television screen. The unit includes an integrated CD/DVD player.

It features two dishwasher-safe remotes. (Yes, you just throw them in the dishwasher to clean them off.)

The unit includes a modem and is capable of dial-up internet access and incorporates a DB-25 printer-port.

The unit can be used as a "security monitor" as it accepts external RCA (composite video + stereo audio) input. I've used this connection with my old TiVo.

The unit has an antenna input, which is pretty useless today since it is pre-HDTV and thus can only receive NTSC signals over-the-air.

Some warnings about the dial-up features. You need to ensure that your ISP supports vanilla dial-up - if they provide Linux instructions, you are probably in good shape. The browser is DATED - basically only supports old-school HTML and not much more. (They did issue a software update in 2002, so you should not expect much to be supported.) I did connect it to my ISP a few times, but could not stand dial-up speeds.

Some notes (from my murky recollection) for prospective hardware hackers... I recall Salton issuing a statement that unit included an operating system from WinRiver; I believe the processor was something like a ~350MHz SuperH. I've heard of folks using the modem on a "dead" line, meaning that you could hook it up to another modem and get connectivity; definitely a Ninja-realm activity.

I tossed the box years ago, so I'm only offering this as local pickup. (I can't imagine shipping a television without the original box as a reasonable expectation.) Please don't bid, if you can't pick it up.

It is a bit big for a flat rate box. I tossed the original packaging, which I remember as being very well done. (Compact box - lots of thought went into it.)

I'm looking up the shipping rates...

30lbs needing a 16x16x16 box from 02130. (I wish it was an LCD instead of a freaking television CRT...)

02130 to Atlanta -> ~$23.00, not sure what UPS charges for packing it up... I'm guessing about $10 more. So about $35 for something nearly a decade old...

I guess if you are willing to pay...
