good question. depends where you live, what zone, etc...try http://www.wikihow.com/Grow-Poppies for super easy instructions or google your planting zone + zip code + poppies. most major seed companies (e.g. burpee) also provide guides on their web sites =)

Are you sure these are Papaver Somniferum? I thought that those were the opium poppies and that they weren't allowed in US? They are lovely flowers I just want to make sure I know what I'm bidding on...

yes, they are p. somniferums. please refer to my 100% feedback, i have been on listia over a year now and have been offering these for some time :) and, as noted in the description, they are the "opium poppy" variety. the seeds are 100% legal and sold in most garden centers & by most reputable seed companies. they are ornamental poppies. if poppy seeds were illicit there would be a lot of bagel companies and bakeries out of business!

the illegality issue arises if you choose to use poppies you have grown for other purposes, e.g. manufacturing morphine. this is, of course, illegal!!!! trading, buying, and growing the seeds is not :) these grow into beautiful specimens that will make your neighbors jealous of your gardening skills, but in reality they are really easy to grow & care for.
