It has been stored for approx 2 years in one of my closets. To my knowledge the strings have not been adjusted since it was last tuned also approx two years ago :)
I believe this is what's called a mountain dulcimer, is that correct? I wouldn't worry about the strings being under tension all this time, unlike a guitar, there should be no warpage due to string tension, the design and low tension strings take care of that problem. The only thing I would be even the slightest bit concerned about is it being too dry, or conversely too moist. Kept in a case like that, too dry would probably be the way it is. That's easily remedied, so don't fret it too much. New strings will be a good idea, and maybe having it set up by someone that really knows this variety of instrument. Your typical guitar guy won't know how to set it up or even tune it correctly. There are four common tunings for this instrument, so you'll have to decide which one to use. The most used is probably DAG, with the D being the largest string.
You could do it via money order of course this would not prolong shipping at all I would cover shipping immediately and be happy to have you just send money order:)
Can you please post pictures of the back and also put a piece of paper with Listia on it in the picture. I've already been scammed on one instrument and I'm sure others would also like confirmation since you are a newbie. Thank you.
Hello & welcome to Listia. I think you have a great item here. I would consider lowering the shipping.or doing free shipping if the auction goes over a certain # of credits (suggestion-20000). Your bids will be considerably higher. If you take into consideration that it costs $40 for 16000 credits, then you should more than make up the shipping charges that way. You don't see too many dulcimers on here so you should get at least 20k-25k credits if you lower the shipping. Just trying to help and good luck with your auction!
People have told me no. It resembles a guitar when knowing chords and notes so if you have expirance with either a violin or guitar you should pick it up quickly I am pretty sure we also have a book in the case that will provide you with some basics :) hope that helps :)
