What needs to be in the soil to make it dark blue?

Good question...I had them growing just 15 miles from here. They were blue but no so dark. here is similar to the soil in Georgia, Alabama and s. Carolina so I'm guessing it is iron. You can accomplish that by planting a bunch of rusty nails under them.
