Description

The listing, USA Cut Coin Ike Eisenhower Dollar For Craft Use has ended.

This coin is for craft use, or just fun to own.

The center, and outer rim, of this coin has been cut away from a genuine 1978 Eisenhower "Ike" dollar, leaving the remainder as scrap, usually melted and never used. You can see the copper clad center in the close up photo. The shape of the missing area is the eagle that has been cut away.

This is the first time offered to highest bidder. Free USA shipping. You will get the item pictured.

Cutting coins is legal, as you would never spend a coin that has been cut out for jewelry. You can't spend it now, as that would be fraudulent.

According to Title 18, Chapter 17 of the U.S. Code, which sets out crimes related to coins and currency, anyone who “alters, defaces, mutilates, impairs, diminishes, falsifies, scales, or lightens” coins can face fines or prison time. The same goes for debasing – that is, decreasing the proportion of precious metals – in gold or silver coins struck or coined at an American mint.

You left out a few words, it is actually: "fraudulently alters, defaces, mutilates, impairs, diminishes, falsifies, scales or lightens" any U.S. coin.

The key word is FRAUDLENTLY. A fraudulent intent is required for violation. The mere act of cutting coins into jewelry or souvenirs is not illegal, without other factors being present. He can cut all the coins he wants. That includes going on vacation and smashing pennies in those souvenir making machines.

Thanks for asking, Yes custom cutting is available at The Cut Coin Store. They are substantially more expensive than the parts and pieces on Listia, and finished pieces are not currently offered here. Colin
