There are ten completed "star" pieces, one completed star that needs connected pieces, and MORE than 60 diamond shapes of cloth with various colors to complete the pattens and make a quilt top. Questions & Comments
This is English Paper Piecing, in which the cloth is wrapped around a piece of paper, by hand. Are the papers included? If so, were they purchased, or was she cutting them herself? Thanks.
I found only one piece of paper, and she was cutting them herself. There may be other papers in the stack of cut-outs; I did not look through every single piece of cloth. Thank you.
My mother did quilting after she retired from 40 years of working. I don't know if I would have the patience to work with all those little pieces....but, when my great-grandmother quilted, it was a family necessity! Every scrap of cloth was saved to make clothes, linens, and quilts.
what an awesome auction !! You are so generous to share this with us. I hope the winner prints the page and keeps it with the quilt so the history stays with it :-)
Oh that would be wonderful! What a good book it would make to see the finished projects and record the story of it. That would be a great piece of history!!
My mother and grandmother made the occasional quilt, but my husband's grandmother is the one who put the love of quilts in me. We have quilts that she made from her and her husband's cast off clothing. She didn't buy much fabric, like your great grandmother. We love those quilts.
These pieces are indeed lovely. I am new on here and not sure of what is what exactly. I have been hand quilting for several years..... After I became disabled, several years ago, I went back to quilting as a hobby but not it seems I no longer have a hobby but a job!!!!!
