Does the compass have a space to put a pencil in or does it just have a spot to put lead in?

yes it has a place to put the pencil in it. It comes with 2 pencils a lead pencil and a pencil that goes in the compass. :)

I want to say the compass and protractor are metal, but can't be a 100% sure without taking it out of the original wrapper. I have looked on the container itself and did not find where it would possible specify it. Some of the pieces I know are plastic though. I tried to get the best pics I could.

I bought it for my daughter before open house during tax free weekend and she ended up not needing it like half the other stuff they put on the list. Good Luck :)
