Description

The listing, Achocha (Fat Baby) Seeds has ended.

For those unfamiliar with Achocha, it's a south American vegetable. It grows on prolific and rampant vines (mine grab hold of anything close to them!) that form little tiny flowers that hoverflies adore. The vegetable itself can be eaten when little and immature (and tastes of a cucumber), but I prefer to wait until they've grown a bit bigger. When they're larger (about two inches), paler, and when you can squeeze them easily, they become basically hollow inside. You can then stuff them and bake them or put them into stifries, chilli, soups. It doesn't have a very strong flavour when cooked, and a lot of people say it tastes like green pepper. They're covered in rubbery spines that look scary but are harmless. They're my favourite thing that I've grown this year, and it's been a great talking point at the allotment! They an heirloom and also don't cross pollinate
with anything else. Each vegetable has about 10 seeds that you can save to plant next year.

This auction is for 8 seeds, saved from my best achocha plant this year.

They'd be really great for making a partition in your garden, like a privacy screen. If you put up a bunch of poles and string some twine going between them horizontally with a bunch of achocha plants growing up them, you'll end up with a nice wall of green in no time - with the added benefit of yummy food to eat!
