Questions & Comments
I've gotten 2 necklaces on here that were stamped 14kt and both were fake. Both looked real enough to fool my jeweler until he tested them. There are some very good fakes out there. I'd hate for you to end up loosing the credits or making a buyer unhappy. It's better to get it tested and be able to state for certain if it's real or not. The magnet sticking to the jump ring makes me think you've got one of the good looking fakes. Most jewelry stores will check it for free if you've got one of those near you.
I would have tested if I had known there would be chance it wasn't I honestly was just going ny the stamp as far as the jump ring a magnet also picks that up on a gold necklace I have that I knowi is real if I had time before the end of auction I would test but I live way out in the sticks and town is miles away that's why I have been trying all these different test and I have posted a warning its buy at your own risk I posted that before the first bid
thank you so much for your insight, if its plated its not heavily plated as you pointed out its not that heavy, it is however just as heavy as other gold chains i have and do wear, after talking with a pawn shop he is familiar with the ones like this going around in the 80's which is when her husband bought it for her and he says the vinegar test would tell you if its fake, but most of those are gold but not as pure as some today, i am not gonna swear its gold i do not know for sure i only know what i see on the clasp, and yes my mother in law and i had a great relationship, she has given me several pieces of jewelry that i do wear including a genuine ruby and diamond ring, that i know is real and yes she was financially able to afford real gold, but as i said i do not know and even so its a pretty chain, but i am being as honest as i can bid if you want but bid at your own risk
Clues to help bidders decide: There's a good chance only the clasp is real since that's all that's marked & a magnet sticks to the link. Possibly chain is heavily plated so magnet doesn't stick to it & maybe the gold wore off the link. Also, not being very heavy is another clue that the chain isn't real cuz a thick chain like that would be heavy if all genuine gold. Afterall, consider how heavy wedding bands are even without diamonds in them. I guess a couple good questions to consider would be whether or not Ur mother in law would actually possess an expensive piece of jewelry & be in the postition to just give it away & do the 2 of U have such a great relationship that she'd give U an expensive gold necklace? LOL! An interesting auction & pretty chain, whatever the case may be :)
thanks I know I would block them but I believe they are entitled to their opinion and I do see quite a few people looking to rip people off on here thanks for all the encouragement real or not not iys a pretty piece but I still believe its real seems it would habe turmed by now with being bought in the 80s but it looks great
I agree with HannibalMissouri you have been very patient !! So far I'm the high bidder and i hope i win !! I think it is beautiful !! You can block people out if your sick of the comments ! I think its a great auction myself !!!! Good Luck to you and ME !!!
ThankU for ur patience & honesty in communicating with all ur commenters! I'm satisfied with the info provided & needless to say, there are sellers on here that don't communicate at all! :)
your welcome I try to be very honest about what I put on here and I really hope its real I have really one necklace I've worn for over 20 years and this just really isnt my style I did wear it a little when she gave it to me as not to hurt her feelings
yes its very nice and in one of the pics the coloring looks real so its still very pretty ether way and who knows we might get a real gold necklace for cheap good luck youve been very patient
i am 30 miles away from the nearest pawnshop so i called one and he gave me this link to try i soaked the necklace in vinegar for 5 mins no reaction http://www.ehow.com/how_5854786_test-gold-vinegar.html#page=1
i don't wear liquid so thats why i tried with powder and like said the only reaction from the magnet was on the little circle piece that hold the clasp on thanks for the tips
and the magnet its to see if it sticks cause usually gold and silver wont stick also a pawn shop will tell you for free ..and if this is solid gold you could get a crazy i mean crazy amount of credits but anyway its very very nice
ok this is my last post about the necklace a similar one is listed on listia for 5000 gin credits it is stamped 925 which is plated over silver by user joy6575 so i am not gonna change my starting bid since mine is stamped 14 k i cannot in good faith swear its real but i also can't tell its not i have tried all the suggested test so it will be buy at your own risk no returns
i tried a powder foundation test on both it and my wedding ring that i know is gold nothing happened on either one don't know what its suppose to mean, i can only read the stamp i have no proof other than that sorry i tried the magnet test and like i said no reaction except the little circle piece that holds the clasp on. i can only tell you what the stamp says as i said it was given to me,
ok not sure what the magnet's suppose to do but i tried with one on the fridge it had no reaction except on the little circle part that holds the clasp on
the stamp says 14k italy my mother gave it to me i didn't buy it personally so all i can go on is the the stamp but it looks real to me, when she gave it to me it had been sitting in a box for a few years it looked brand new
