up for auction is a pair of old antique skates that I found in the attic, I don't no a thing about them, lol, all I no is they have to be one of the first skates made haha!! anyway.. if you no any history on these please share, I love hearing about things like this!!! it looks like these will adjust to your shoes size by sliding... not sure on that tho, and the wheels do have heavy wear on them but they can still roll these weigh over 3 lbs so they are pretty heavy to. i have took plenty of pics so please check em all out, tysm

Do they have straps to hold your feet to the skates? I was just wondering how do they stay on your shoes as you try to skate with them?

I have no idea!!! lol, I think they used some type of straps but I don't have any to go with these, I just thought they were cool so I listed them, lol

They do stay on with one strap that goes through the holes of the metal pieces behind your ankle. The strap buckles around your ankle. There is no strap used on the front, It adjusts with a key that used to come with it. The key tightens or loosens the front to clamp on to the rubber on ones shoe. The key is missing. However I believe it wouldn't be too hard to find a wrench that will fit in that tight spot. Now: under the bottom about in the middle of the skate is a nut that when loosened will allow you to adjust the length for your shoe. Tighten it down when skate is secure around shoe. Finally this skate was made around the 60's. Selling on goodwill for seven. Ebay with key and strap about 40. Personally I think this is an awesome pair of skates because back in the 60's they made things to last a lifetime and then some. As well as, if your foot grew, you never needed another pair of skates. People didn't blow money like we do now. Compare to $200 roller blades that just fit one size and made of plastic. They could be either from the 50s or 60s. The ones I have seen listed are from the 50's and they had the yellow rim dust caps on the wheels as these do. So very possible they are 50's. You're welcome. To research yourself, type union hardware company skates in google search.

I feel old now too lol. I had a pair also when I was a kid in the early 70s. I loved them & they do last forever. Mine were handed down to a friends kid when I got a new pair of shoe skates in early 80s. The last I heard they were handed down to her kids. F & W #11 great auction & good luck! =)

I'm a kid from the 60's and I use to put these on and yes they had a key I wore mine around my neck on a piece of string. I use to make them spark if I went fast enough, oh these brought back memories,such good ones almost brought me to tears. I'm 51 and made me feel like I was 6 yrs old again!!!! Love them (not so much the antique part)LOL, got a kick out of that. I had red leather straps on mine, some WD40 and these would be great!!!!
