Description
The listing, Rattlesnake bone necklace (real!) -- vintage has ended.
I was given this necklace more than 30 years ago when I lived in Arizona. The guy who gave it to me used to go out and find rattlesnakes (road kill mostly -- he didn't kill any -- at least that's what he told me) and make necklaces from the bones. The bones are intersperced with beads.
Very different! It measures a bit over 20"
Shipping first class is $3, payable through Paypal. Will ship to US only (sorry!)
Questions & Comments
thought you might find this interesting, or at least a bidder may......According to some traditions, snake was sinister. To the Celts and Native Americans, snake is beneficial. Snake represented rebirth, ridding the old for the better new.
Oddly enough, I've always loved snakes and used to see them all the time in Phoenix (40 years ago!). That's why I am hoping the guy who gave me the necklace was telling the truth that it was road kill. It would have broken my heart had he said he'd killed a snake for this necklace.
Have you seen my auctions ... I'm getting rid of thousands of beads and trying really hard not to collect TOO many more! These are extremely cool, though. The next time you list a necklace like this you should reach out to the beaders selling jewelry on Listia. Many of us buy old jewelry to take apart for the beads!
I'd hate to think of this necklace being dismantled for its components, but I suppose what I don't know wouldn't hurt me. Still, I have very fond memories of it and I hope the next owner will enjoy it as much as I have.
