The listing, Antique Vintage Letter Openers Oriential Design has ended.

From an estate sale. 7 & 1/8" long & 6". Smaller one has 2 tiny filed indents where someone tested for gold, and dis-colorment from test. The larger nicer one with design is A-OK. Handles are wood.

I had some spoons of this same design. The info i found about them was:
This is a bronze/brass item imported/ made for Cavanaugh's Inc. by S. Samran in Bangkok Thailand. the design is Star of Siam Dancer. This was produced in the 1960's, most likely.

So, just what are these made out of, and can they be sharpened if they don't open letters very well ?

I believe the metal is brass. And they will open letters. I suggested filing it where the indents are, but it is fine as is, and will open letters. Letter openers are not sharp like a knife.
