I really enjoy Hazel Holt's writing. If you prefer violent murders or convoluted plots these are not for you. I read every genre of book and find it is not the content so much as the writing that must satisfy me.
There are biographies of people who have led really interesting lives which I put down after the first few chapters, others about pottering around on a farm with a couple of sheep, a dog, a cat and a few hens can be hard to put down.
Hazel Holt is one of these writers. Her gentle insight into human nature, the slow village life and day to day joys and frustrations I find very appealing. The murders are almost incidental in some ways, although the final ending is always satisfactory. Others have given an outline of the plot, I just re-iterate, the style of writing is purely English of the Agatha Christie period although with less complicated plots, so check the style first and if it appeals you are in for a very pleasant experience.
