Rickey was special. While he was one of the best known players of the 1980s, he was still remarkably underrated. As a hitter, he surpassed 3000 hits and set the career marks for most times walked in a career as well as breaking Ty Cobb's record for most runs scored, as well as setting a MLB record for most leadoff home runs in a career. On the basepaths, he broke Lou Brock's record of 938 steals ... and kept going, retiring with over 1400 stolen bases in his career, stealing over 60 bases 10 times and over 100 bases 3 times, including a single season record 130 in 1982.
Rickey's 94.8% vote on the first ballot to enter the Hall of Fame is one of the highest totals ever.
