The Feathers are from a Guinea. They are about the size of a Large chicken. Very good "Watch Dog" birds on our farm. They eat ticks, fire ants which are abundant here in Fl, and they chatter really loud when there is a predator around from stray dogs to Hawks. Wonderful birds. You can look them up on the internet. They come in a lot of different colors. I have a "White" one that is referred to as a Slade. They have beautiful feathers like the inside of an abalone shell you find at the beach. I only take the feathers that they have shed during molting. I never pull out there feathers! Some people do, and I think it is cruel. I raise them from babies that my husband hatches in the incubator. We collect the eggs to keep snakes from finding them. Guinea's will also kill snakes, but in Fl, we have a lot of poisonous snakes and we don't want to loose our breeders from defending their brood. They are also very tame when hand raised. We sell the adults to other farmers. Ours protect our Free Range Chickens from Hawks. Some Feathers have stripes and some have poka-dots. Hope this helps. And thank you for the e-mail.
Love your story! They sound like great birds! I have always been drawn to these feathers with the polka dots. SO cute! I need a bunch of them for a project. Is this auction just for the three shown??
Yes, but I always try to include extras to the winning bidder. How many are you looking for? What type of project are you working on? I have 8 Guinea's and one is "white". Can't wait till she starts molting so I can get some of her feathers. Look almost like Mother Of Pearl. She has the polka dots too but the feathers are white with a rainbow tint to the dots. So beautiful. They call them "Slade Guinea's" if you want to google that. Thanks for the e-mail. Have a great Halloween. :)
