you can test the gold with liquid foundation makeup...rub some on your hand or arm, allow to dry and the drag the chain across the area...if a charcoal looking mark is left then it is real gold/silver.

I do not know if the necklace is real, There are no markings that I can make out. There could is a possible marking on the necklace ring but it is very hard t see. I do know that the gems are real. I studied gemology and know with 100% certainty.

I disagree about the ruby comment. I had a beautiful 4ct REAL Ruby ring and that was why I bought it bc it glowed in the black lights. I thought that was really cool!
Very pretty necklace,,,,real or not! =)

The best way to know for sure is just to take it to a commercial jeweler and have them look at it. Some of them will tell you for free.

Magnets don't always tell either, I have magnets that work on some things but not on others. Rare Earth Magnets are much stronger and will pick up on alloys or steel under heavy plating.(I don't have one though) .If your magnet works it isn't gold or silver, if it doesn't they aren't necessarily gold or silver.,

In the past I have found that Older Gold (Precious metal) an even Silver may not have any markings at all, We tend to bank on a stamp of 925 for silver-however its not guaranteed pure silver. So to with Gold in some instances its not marked either-especially handmade pieces. (kt so-called gold is not anything like higher numbers at all) I was "Fooled" by an unscruplous one advertising on e-bay. FYI. Ula

You can tell if the rubies and diamonds are real is by using a black light. and if the stones glow they are lab create

This is very difficult with rubies because you may get a similar reaction this is especially true with rubies.. There are two types of black light used to examine gemstones. Their names are based on wavelength: there is longwave black light and shortwave blacklight. Shortwave lamps produce waves in the range of 180-280 nanometer(nm)/ 1800-2800 angstroms(An). Longwave lamps produce waves 320-380 nm/ 3200-3800 An. Both these lamps. Both have a strong red color under shortwave and strong red/very strong red under longwave. I would suggest a gemologist take a look before dismissing your gemstones.

graycladlady your are correct bi tell everyone about the foundation liqid trick but it will work for gold and goldplated and silver so i use that band a magnet but the only sure way is a tester but ive used that way for many years and the best liquid makeup base is the older cheap kind that has no moisturizers or added stuff in it just plain old base any tint

The way you can tell if any gem is real is by using a black light. If the stones glow then you know they are lab created.

Maybe try taking a picture of the clasp. Sometimes you cant see it, but the computer can blow it up large enough to see. Just a thought.

There is nothing on the clasp. There is a faded marking on the ring of the clasp. I have tried to make it out with a magnifying glass but I can't.
