This is an antique jet hairclip. I got it from my mother (now in her 90's) ,I believe it was from a dress , but I'd seen a lot of Native American girls wearing beaded hairclips, so I had the idea to make it into one, and I paid a Native American friend to do it. I do think it could be shored up a bit more with a little more backing to stiffen it, and sew down the loose pieces.,as it does seem fragile, so I never wore it. But the beads are beautiful and it could even be remade into something else or added to a Victorian style dress as it may have been. My hair is short now, so this doesn't work for me at all now, plus I have so many hairclips, I thought it's time for it to find a new home. It's different and interesting, I couldn't decide if it belonged in crafts, or Ladies accessories, but because it is SO old, I decided on Antiques.
