Description

The listing, Feral Hollyhocks! (25 +) has ended.

These are decended from your garden-variety hollyhocks - but they are incredibly tough! Collected the seeds from a stand that has naturalized on a gravelly bank alongside a country road.
The plants have single flowers, in a wide range of colors (and bi-colors) - from white/lavender through all shades of pink, a light coral, a true red, and a rich burgundy - and are growing from 2' to 4' high (but they'll probably grow taller if you give them decent soil - and water them!)
Here in northern California we get just about zero rain from some time in May til late October (usually!) and the summer temps average in the low 90's (high 80's to low 100's) - so it's a tough environment, and these hollyhocks bloomed their little hearts out all summer. Don't know if the plants are annuals or biennials, but they re-seed themselves happily - they're there every year!

These are single-flower hollyhocks (not the multi-layer ruffle-y kind), and are will attract hummingbirds and butterflies. Note that the pix are examples of only a few of the colors - there are at least 8 different flower colors in all.

The lucky winner will receive 25+ seeds gathered from plants of many different colors.

Nice job harvesting the local color. I like that they are tough little boogers.

I used to think I should stop and water them with my emergency dog water, but they seem to do just fine without...must be drinking the dew, because they sure aren't getting any rain.

I'm planning on planting some up on the hillside - can't get up there to water...every garden needs a few things that you couldn't kill with a stick.
