FYI (from a jewelry designer/maker): If it is marked .925, then it is not plated. If it was plated, it would say .925SP or .925EP (Silver plate or electro-plate), or markings to that effect. To mis-mark, or misrepresent, precious metal is illegal. And let's face it, plated ISN'T precious. Therefore, if you have just .925, then it is STERLING Silver (as opposed to FINE Silver, which is .997 thru .999). For instance, most of my metalwork is either.925 (Silver), 12K gold-fill, 14K gold-fill (both yellow & white, occasionally rose), or real (not plated) copper. On occasion I do work in 10K or 14K gold, but those are custom pieces that are VERY expensive.
