The listing, Pauline's, Memoirs of the Madam on Clay Street by Pauline Tabor has ended.
CONDITIONAL FREE SHIPPING, on this neat old, beautifully illustrated book. It's a quite big, heavy hard cover, copyright 1971, fifth printing 1972. Illustrated by David Stone Martin.
Four-decade memoirs of a brothel owner in Bowling Green, Kentucky. She opened her first "house" in 1933. After retirement Pauline became a successful organic farmer.
The book (I found at a garage sale) is very old and shows some damage, though no pages are torn, and it's perfectly readable. The paper sleeve has some ragged edges as well as water stains. The book itself has some stains on inside back and page edges. Large book, 11 x 9 inches.
Pauline's in-depth memories are for adults only. My review - very entertaining! It tells of her life and struggles to make a living during the Great Depression, while trying to support two young children as a single parent. She finally had to turn to this life of crime, enlisting the help of friends and officials. This book is full of stories that will keep your attention, extremely well-written. Has really nice illustrations (in my opinion), but a little too risque to post pics here! Also has some photographs of the author.
Please "search" the book on the internet and Ebay for more information. A good condition book is listed on Ebay for $150.
CONDITIONAL FREE SHIPPING by media mail. If bids go over 500 I will ship free. But because of the heaviness, I have to ask $4.00 flat rate - if the cost is higher, I'll pay.
