Description

The listing, Possible Reproduction? ***1840 Republic Of Texas $3.00 Promisory Note*** has ended.

Possible Reproduction of an 1840 Republic Of Texas $3.00 Promissory Note. I have serious doubts that this is genuine. For one, the paper seems very, very thin. It just doesn't feel like a real not to me, but... I have never held or even seen on of these notes before. (Anywhere)
But... It does have the reverse side and the color of the entire note does look authentic. I really don't know enough about Republic of Texas currency to make a call on this so I will just describe it as best I can and tell folks to bid as if it were NOT AUTHENTIC. So please, do not ask for a refund when you get this and say it's a fake. I am absolutely not claiming it's real. I just can't say either way.
It does look very old, the paper feels very thin. It has the revers printed on it with the Large Star in the center and the letters between all the points spell out T E X A S
The front of the note says: "The Treasurer Of The Republic Of Texas will pay THREE DOLLARS in Promissory"
It also has printed the city of Austin and next to that April 17, 1840with a couple of signatures I can not read. The signatures are clear I just cant read this old style cursive writing to well.
There is also in the top right corner "No. 40" which is some kind of serial number I am assuming.
Like I said, the note does look very old but to me just "*feels like a reproduction*"
This is one of 3 of these notes that were part of a larger lot of confederate and older notes I won on another auction site. This item will go out with a USPS Tracking number which I will message to you after I send it out. Please do not ask for a refund because the item has not arrived. The tracking number will tell you and ~me~ both where the note is and or if it made it to it's destination.

Thanks for looking and please remember to mark the item received and leave me some nice feedback when you get it.

If anybody has any knowledge of the Republic of Texas currency and would like to share it with us, it would be welcomed tremendously. I would love to say weather or not I believed this to be legit or not so please speak up if you have valid info and or where I might research this note further. I just can't find a whole lot about this one anywhere. Thanks for looking and please check back on my other auctions often, I plan on listing a couple more interesting items soon.

One more note on why I think it may be fake. It seems like most of the ink on the writing, signatures, pictures and all of the print are basically the same color. There is no color to the note other than the brownish old looking paper and the dark blueish/gray colored print and writing.

thank you. like the description says, I really have my doubts as to the authenticity but this is a very, very cool item. A note I have never seen until I got this. Glad you like it. I am going to try to list a couple more different notes this evening.

@ mabiniss1 for some reason your link is not any good. May want to recheck that. I would also recommend getting info, answers and research data on coins and currency from actual publications or asking questions on reputable coin and currency forums rather than yahoo answers , or any other similar forums. Lots of times any yahoo in the world can be on the other side of your answer and be completely misinforming you. But you are more than likely correct in your comment that it;s fake. I stated that in the description. I just doesn't feel like a real note and there is no real color on the note to speak of. Thanks for your comment and for checking out my auction. Hope you bid on it.

Ahhhhh. yes, I forgot that. When I first got these(I have 3) I spent some time trying to find what I could on these. There honestly wasn't much out there. But you are correct, that is one of the things I remember reading. I have to find that website and share it. If you know a good site I can read about these(I will have 2 left after this auction) would you please give me the name. I don't need a link, I'll find it. Just the name of the site or forum or what ever.
Thanks,
T

Tony, when you post a link in the comments it puts a unwanted space in the link, when you copy and paste, loom for the space in the link. Example - erzxgtf vbgf, shouldn't be a space in-between the f and v. Hope this helps

Yeah, I don't know. If someone wants to send me a link to a forum or some place to research my items they can always feel free to send it to me via a private message or ask me for my email and send it there. I never know what to make of some of the comments on my auctions. Like somebody that just writes "ITS A FAKE" what am I supposed to do with that. And folks putting up links ??? Is it supposed to be helpful info or a rude insult. It's very hard to tell sometimes. Private messages work much better for that type of communication if you ask me :)

All I know about this not I put in the description so.... I always apreciate folks comments but they need to make a clear point or be a little more specific, rather than when somebody just writes "IT'S A FAKE" :) yes...thank you....we basically already knew that , but thanks for the logical explanation :)
