Actually, your item is a rosewater sprinkler. It's not associated with holy water. They are commonly used in the middle east. Google 'rosewater sprinkler' for lots of info. Nice piece. I have sold a few and currently have one that's frosted glass and wrapped in a silver plated wire design. These are being re-purposed for after shave and Eau de toilette. They're being used in the kitchen for oil and vinegar as well. I don't think using them for food is a good idea. No way to know if the metal contains lead.

Why do you think it is that old? I have one similar that I bought in Saudi Arabia about 10yrs ago. They were being sold all over the place in different colored glass. Red is my favorite though :)
